I think it will be Copilot OS not Windows 12. They will kill Windows brand with Windows 11.
If it is AI based I guarantee it will be subscription based. That could push me over the edge to some Linux variant.
Honestly, unless you're a huge League of Legends fan, just do it.
It's easier than you might think. Check out Debian with KDE Plasma frontend. It's similar enough to Windows that it finally pushed me over to Linux.

How can anyone upgrade to a new PC when there is no Ram or hard disks available? This is a crazy time to try to push that.
I think this highlights Microsoft's inability to connect with its customers even more than the AI and shit.
They really just do not give a shit about the consumer, at all.
Its insane people put up with it on their own personal machines I get for work or whatever.
Microsoft is absolutely fucking deranged just like that freak who’s leading them. Dealing with them as an enterprise customer is a fucking nightmare, their docs suck, their support, which you pay for btw, is adversarial just like their OS. I fucking hate Microsoft in my bones, so I love when I see them doing submental shit like this to themselves

SharePoint is the bane of my existence. Sorry, I can't find the file you're looking for because all the files are saved in one folder and fuck you for expecting the filter function to work. I hope you remember the exact filename and enjoy scrolling for 5 minutes.
The best thing about sharepoint is I can hook into PA and automate away most of the annoying parts of it

The truth is that you and I are not their customer. The business to business sales are their primary concern, and many companies would be fine forking over a little extra cash for the "AI operating system".
The average home user is an afterthought.
Agreed. I think it has gotten worse over time. Operating systems for consumer PCs are a mature market and they don't really have commercial rivals. It's Mac, Windows, or Linux and most people never really consider Linux. So, they use Windows to push their other products and not so much as a product in itself.

It’s not clear whether Windows 12 will welcome any non-NPU processors. More likely, PCs that don’t meet its system requirements will lose some functionality.
They will lose some functionality, only if we accept that the slop features meet the definition of what makes a piece of functionality. They seem to not function quite a lot still.
Hopefully, SteamOS Desktop will be in the wild and shaked off any teething issues. I want to switch to an OS that is suitable for a power-casual. If it looks like a 2nd American Civil War or WW3 is on, I might switch early to Cachy.
If your a power-casual then why are you waiting for Steam OS? You realize that any distro with steam installed is basically Steam OS?
Because I want a 800lb gorilla to perpetually support my gaming distro, working Nvidia drivers, have enough freedom to use mods and whatnot, documentation suitable for people who aren't terminal-brained, and so forth. Valve is the kind of company that can tick these boxes, simply through sheer inertia.
I tried Mint back in early 2025. It wasn't quite right for my purposes, so I wanted to wait for something friendlier. Just because I can do stuff if I put in elbow grease, doesn't mean that I want to be an expert at fiddling with penguins.
Outside of what's essentially steam big picture mode, steamOS is just an immutable arch, there's not much support from valve for desktop mode use, you still need to know how to linux, particularly containerized programs.
The GabeCube is going to be console-like first with linux desktop features a side-thought. Mess around with a steam deck sometime so you can know what to expect. I love mine but doing anything outside of the big picture mode does have a learning curve.
I'll take this as a sign to continue converting as many of my friends and family to whichever Linux distro fits them best.
I should get an AMD gpu at some point. Fuck MicroSlop.

So is Mint still the easiest distro? I think I'm switching for good this time.
I started with Fedora myself and moved to FedoraKDE, also good.
I went from 10 to Mint back in January.
Pretty easy switchover. Very few issues. As a lifelong Windows user, installing apps, keeping everything updated and backed up could not be easier. Only issue I ran into during install was my WiFi device would not show up. Had to turn off fast boot and then power cycle the system and literally pull the plug to completely reset the adapter. Other than that, everything worked perfectly "out of the box". No fucked up driver install process. No hour long updates. It literally worked perfectly within minutes. All the shit I went through with every single Windows install honestly feels like a cruel fucking joke right now when I type it out.
I had some issues with my Bluetooth/wifi but I somehow got it to work. Modding is a bit of a bitch though, I have to run Vortex through steam tinker and it is less than optimal even if it works.
Fortunately, Nexus has posted that they're intending to support Linux more in the coming future.
Hopefully it comes soon. The current state of Linux modding is mixed at best.
I only have a desktop right now, but I'm leaning towards buying an actual PC for gaming and video editing, keeping that on Windows just for simplicity's sake, then switching my desktop to Linux and using that for all non-gaming and non-editing purposes.
I'm using ModOrganizer 2, and it seems to work fine, but you need a separate installation for every game.

They haven’t even gotten everyone into 11 yet. They are tossing out another OS? Seems, dare I say, sloppy.
They've always done this. People are still using XP two decades post release, and a decade past it's EOL.
