Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Like they do with dogs today.

There would be social pressure in China to stop eating pork so as to do civilisation better.

And nobody would ask why the Bible forbids eating pig meat; since pigs wouldn't be food animals, asking why it's wrong to eat them would be like asking why theft is wrong.

Chinese people don't eat dogs lmao. Maybe in the 1300s but not in today's time or at all recently

1 you missed the point 2 a small fraction of people in China absolutely eat dogs. A country with a population the size of China's means a small fraction is still a massive amount of animals. Around 10 million dogs a year and they were classified as livestock not companion animals until 2020. Stating that isn't racist its factual. The Yulin Dog Meat Festival happens every year to this day and will happen in 2026. I have no idea where you're getting the idea it hasn't happened since the 1300s.

That's great and all man...but that first website is propaganda. The second one is over 10 years old and the last one was just nine and I didn't even read past the title. You can learn through Chinese residents about their culture and history.

Are you trying to say that dog eating is made up? I feel like you're trying to reject reality so you can feel like you're on the "right" side of things. Objective fact is a thing. I could have gotten sources from the last year or two but I was just trying to show that your assertion about the 1300s is absolutely ridiculous. I used to be very close with a Vietnamese man who talked me through a fair bit of his experience with dog meat prior to coming to the USA (among a ton of other shit). He was a mentor to me while I was finishing my degree. I'm not operating soley on google searches. It just objectively is a thing in a some places. Especially, some Asian and African countries, end of story.

That's not what I am saying no. But you're trying to tell me every Chinese person eats dog every day for dinner and then they have a yearly extraganza about it. But when I have friends and family still in China, I'll take their word over some dumbass articles

Lmao you didn't read what I said at all... I literally said a small fraction of China's population eats dogs but with a population the size of China's a small fraction still means a lot of animals... Saying what you just said would actually be racist.

I think you've missed the entire point of the thought.
