Apple appears to have prematurely revealed the name of its rumored lower-cost MacBook model, which is expected to be announced this Wednesday. A regulatory document for a "MacBook Neo" (Model A3404) has appeared on Apple's website. Unfortunately, there are no further details or images available yet. While the PDF file does not contain the "MacBook Neo" name, it briefly appeared in a link on Apple's regulatory website for EU compliance purposes.

Apple heard you and released it for $599-699!

I'm not planning on touching them, but in this economy + the Apple tax, I'm almost impressed

The 17e or whatever new phone is supposedly available for 599 with 256GB of internal storage.
Honestly: If the phone i know little android competition in that price range witg comparable specs and polish.

But I'd still get one at a higher price because I don't like Mr.WalledGarden

what does storage have to do with ram?

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 point 3 hours ago

Same base material

I only see a $600 option. What's the $700 option?

[–] XLE@piefed.social 1 point 17 hours ago (1 child)

If you go to the official Apple store, the one with 512GB storage is $100 more

[–] artyom@piefed.social 0 points 17 hours ago (1 child)

Okay so there's not even an option for increased RAM, huh? 🤣

[–] XLE@piefed.social 2 points 17 hours ago (1 child)

There's more color options than all the other options combined! Internally you only get the two choices.

This would eat MacBook Air's lunch with 16GB (market-wise). They're just intentionally kneecapping it again.

[–] XLE@piefed.social 1 point 13 hours ago (1 child)

Apparently, the last (2020) MacBook Air, which is much more capable, is only $700 to $750 if you can find it on the market. But it's getting phased out right now. Heaven forbid consumers have anything better for less than $1100. Not from Apple.

People keep saying to buy this thing all the time, seemingly unaware of the fact that every Apple product has an expiration date, when Apple arbitrarily decides that it's "obsolete". That 2020 MacBook has like 1 year of life left in it.

Probably true, but what of a laptop with the processor of their iPhone? Their older laptops can stay kicking for years, but I wonder about the longevity of something with a lighter chip on the desktop market
